Tips & Tricks – “Curved Lines”
SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate
HOW IT WORKS: Building on last month’s “leading lines” technique, using curved lines is another way to enhance a composition. To put this technique into practice involves finding a curved line to give the eye something to follow in the image. Where a straight line is effective, using a curved line is often more romantic, or dramatic than a straight line. The driving force behind this technique is providing the viewer’s eye with something to “follow”, and following a curved line with your eye takes longer than a straight one (a good thing!).
The strength of a curved line is that it can suggest more of a journey, where a straight line leads the viewer to the destination quickly. This may cause them to overlook other elements in the image you wanted them to appreciate. In either case, both straight and curved lines are useful tools to help guide the viewer.
Note: Not all lines need to lead to one particular point or item, but rather provide a simple curved line for your eye to follow.

Unlike other “virtual tours” currently available, this “walk through” approach allows you to see the space as if you there yourself! Actually walking through a space is the only way to get a feel for the home and connect with the layout and flow of the floor plan.
At this point in time The Ultimate Tour is focusing primarily on the Real Estate market and will be targeting other markets in the near future.

THE STORY: Coastline Studios was recently hired by Cornerstone University to capture some unique winter pictures of their students and campus life. Despite trying to keep nearly 25 volunteer students warm, the shoot not only resulted in some incredible shots, but was also fun for everyone involved. In the picture above a group of students launch a surprise ambush on their friends and pummel them with snow. While it seemed like the attacking students had the element of surprise it was only seconds later when they learned they were being set up, and another 2 groups surprised them from behind. 10 minutes later everyone was treated to a hot drink of their choice in the nearby on-campus coffee shop. While the students enjoyed their warm drinks Coastline Studios continued to take small groups around the campus to capture a variety of students in different parts of the University.
